The IOS-MCN (Indian Open Source for Mobile Communication Networks) Consortium announces the release of Agartala 0.4.0, the fourth open-source release of the IOS-MCN platform.

Agartala 0.4.0 represents a significant step toward pilot-ready Private 5G deployments, delivering improved stability, performance, and feature completeness across RAN, Core, IMS, and management components. The release has been developed collaboratively by IISc Bengaluru, IIT Delhi, and CDAC, under the MeitY-funded IOS-5GN Project.

Key features of Agartala 0.4.0:

  • Xn, F1, and N2 handovers
  • VoNR and ViNR with IMS integration
  • ORAN-compliant disaggregated RAN and unified RAN support
  • Network slicing
  • Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) with unified dashboard
  • RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) framework with E2 interface
  • PM counters across RAN and Core
  • End-to-end latency improvements (validated below 10 ms)
  • Containerized end-to-end solution
  • Stability improvements and extended test coverage

The release has been validated for high reliability, low latency, and high data throughput, making it suitable for controlled pilots and system integration activities.

Proposed Pilot Engagements (Planned for 2026- 27)

Based on proposals received from ecosystem partners, Agartala 0.4.0 is being considered for pilot deployments starting in the second half of 2026, across a range of use cases, including:

  • Intelligent Village connectivity
  • Railway communications and disaster management networks
  • Network-in-a-Box solutions for defence applications
  • Remote learning connectivity for Anganwadi centres
  • Drone-enabled Private 5G deployments

These proposed pilots are intended to support industry-led validation of IOS-MCN in real-world environments.
